If you are purchasing a property for the first time in Montenegro and are not sure what the process will be like or do not have time to be in Montenegro to sign or finalise all of the documents then we would definitely recommend hiring a lawyer as they are able to do everything from negotiating the terms of the contract to being your power of attorney to changing the deeds and utility bills into your name after the purchase. Hiring a lawyer also gives you peace of mind that everything will be done on time and correctly.
That being said, a lawyer is not necessary in Montenegro when buying a property. If you know any locals who have been through the process themselves and can give you advice or are happy to be in Montenegro throughout the process and do it all yourself then hiring a lawyer is not something you need to do.
