Once you have finalised the purchase and received all of your paperwork for your property you will be eligible to apply for a residence permit. The following documents are what you will need to take with you to apply –
- List Nepokretnosti which is proof of ownership – this cannot be older than 6 months.
- Proof of an amount of 3,500€ in a Montenegrin bank account.
- Proof of at least 1 month of medical insurance in Montenegro.
- Copies of passport
- Police certificate from country of origin as proof of no criminal record – this also cannot be older than 6 months and needs to be translated officially.
Once all of the required paperwork has been submitted the process will begin and can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to be finalised. The residency permit lasts 12 months and needs to be renewed every year.
Who is eligible to obtain a residence permit?
- Foreign citizens with at least a 50% share in a property in Montenegro.
- Children and spouse of a permit holder.
- Anyone who has been in Montenegro for longer than 5 years with a temporary permit.
A residence permit can only be obtained with the purchase of a residential or commercial property. This includes houses and apartments, hotels or commercial units such as shops, offices etc.
